🔔The pilot PrEP program at the GGDs in the Netherlands changes as of 1 August 2024.

What changes?
▶ PrEP will not be directly dispensed at the GGDs anymore.
▶ You will get PrEP from your own pharmacy of choice to get PrEP and the GGD will send the prescription there.
▶ Costs at pharmacies are about €30-50 depending on the pharmacy.
▶ PrEP care check-ups will be reduced to 6-monthly but remain for free.

You can also get PrEP at your GP or other clinics.
▶ Ask your GP or doctor for a prescription.
▶ Buy PrEP yourself at the pharmacy of your choice.
▶ The check-ups can be done at the GP or these clinics. They are reimbursed but you have to pay your "own risk" (eigen risico) first.

Last week, our hivtest4eu project was awarded the best poster award at the 2023 national HIV conference of the Netherlands (NCHIV). Very proud that hivtest4eu was selected as an example project that was able to reach a diverse sample of individuals who were often never tested for HIV and often unaware where to test. By comparing different methods of recruitment for our HIV tests, we found out that outreach test events are very important to make testing easily accessible. We keep learning from such insights and aim to make testing as easily accessible as we possibly can.

This year's theme is "Let Communities Lead!" With that, the WHO is calling on global leaders and citizens alike to take action in three ways:
1. “Nothing about us without us” – engage community leadership in all HIV plans and programmes.
2. "Not ending AIDS is more expensive than ending it” – fully fund sustainable community leadership.
3. “Remove laws that harm, create laws that empower” – support civil society with robust regulation.

Last week we attended the Fast Track Cities conference in Amsterdam where the amazing @andrea.nakakawa presented the work on the needs-assessment that was done among migrants living in the EuRegio Meuse-Rhine. We also heard many other success stories from other cities and regions working with migrants that we learn from. Main take away: put the people at the center! Without really working together with the communities, we will not understand what is going on and cannot come to effective strategies and solutions. Therefore, thank you for all the participants who were willing to work with us and share their stories!

In the needs assessment, people shared with us the barriers that they experienced when (trying to) access HIV prevention, testing and care. They shared that barriers such as #hivstigma, the #complexity of health care organization, #mistrust and #culturalbeliefs played a large role.

Initiatives that are out there are often only available in one language, do not fit with their needs, and don't help to navigate. These might be quite easy to solve, a few things we can do are listed here!
